1d. Queensland QO varieties

The most famous variety, albeit unlisted in catalogues, is the fabled OOeensland variety

A lot has been written on this stamp and its provenance and authenticity, which I won't repeat here. Full discussions can be found here and here

QO Variety
The listed variety is "QO" QOeensland instead of Queensland. It occurs as the 48th stamp in the first plate and was caused by the electro sticking to the matrix, tearing away a portion of the raised surface. A second plate was made in 1880 and this variety occurred in position no 44. A third plate was prepared after March 1881 and there is no trace of the "QO" in this plate.
